FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions — FAQ

Answers to the questions our customers ask most often — about copper, our products, delivery, care and health

Products & Material
What are the vessels in the naczynia-miedziane.pl shop made of?
All vessels are made from a copper alloy with a composition of 99.6% Cu + 0.4% Zn (zinc). The composition is confirmed by an independent laboratory report from DEKRA — the document is available on the shop's website. The 0.4% zinc is added solely to increase the hardness and durability of the vessel — it has no effect on its health properties or the taste of drinks.
Are the vessels tin-lined on the inside?
Some products — especially kettles and teapots — are tin-lined on the inside using the traditional Ottoman method (kalaylama). The tin lining creates a neutral barrier between the copper and the drink, ensuring a clean taste without any metallic notes. Information about tin lining is included in each product description. Bottles and cups are not tin-lined — they have direct contact with copper, which is in keeping with Ayurvedic tradition.
Where do the vessels come from?
The vessels are produced in India, in the Rajasthan region — one of the oldest and most respected centres of copper craftsmanship in the world. AURA has a capital interest in the production facility, which ensures full control over the material composition, manufacturing technique and quality of every product before it is shipped to Poland.
Are copper vessels safe to use?
Yes — vessels with a DEKRA certificate (99.6% Cu) are safe under normal use. The trace amounts of copper ions that pass into drinks are well below WHO limits (2 mg/l). Copper is an essential mineral for the human body. We do not recommend storing acidic juices and carbonated drinks in unlined vessels for extended periods.
Are copper vessels suitable for food contact?
Yes — copper is approved for food contact under European standards. Tin-lined vessels are completely neutral. Unlined vessels (bottles, cups) are suitable for water, herbal infusions and tea. We do not recommend storing acidic products such as vinegar, citrus juices or carbonated drinks in unlined vessels for extended periods.
Health Properties of Copper
Does copper really have antibacterial properties?
Yes — the antibacterial properties of copper are scientifically proven. Within 15–20 minutes, copper destroys Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, influenza A viruses and noroviruses. The mechanism is known as the oligodynamic effect — Cu²⁺ ions inactivate the cell membranes of pathogens through direct contact with the metal surface.
Is water from a copper vessel healthier?
Water stored for several hours in a copper vessel is naturally antibacterial and contains trace copper ions — an essential micronutrient that supports the immune system, collagen synthesis and iron metabolism. The Ayurvedic tradition has recommended drinking water stored in copper (known as tamra jal) for over 5,000 years. Copper water is also free from BPA and microplastics.
Do copper bracelets help with joint pain?
Wearing copper bracelets for joint pain and arthritis is a centuries-old tradition practised in many cultures. Copper is an element involved in the synthesis of collagen and elastin — the proteins that build cartilage and joints. Our bracelets also feature magnets at the ends. We are unable to make medical promises — if you have serious health concerns, always consult a doctor.
How long should water be stored in a copper vessel?
Ideally 6–8 hours or overnight. During this time, copper ions pass into the water at a safe concentration, and the natural antibacterial properties of copper eliminate any micro-organisms. We do not recommend storing water for longer than 24 hours. Do not put a copper bottle in the fridge — cold temperatures slow down the ionic properties of copper.
Care & Cleaning
Why is my copper vessel turning darker?
The darkening of copper is a natural and completely normal process — the metal's reaction with oxygen and moisture in the air, known as patination. This is not a product defect. Many people value the patina as a sign of authenticity and character. You can read more about this process in our article: Why do copper vessels darken?
How do I clean and polish a copper vessel?
The simplest and most effective method is a paste made from lemon juice and sea salt — rub it in with a soft cloth, leave for a moment, rinse with warm water and dry. You can also use vinegar with salt. The effect appears almost immediately. A detailed guide is available here: Cleaning copper — a guide
Can I wash copper vessels in the dishwasher?
No — the dishwasher damages copper vessels. Aggressive detergents and high temperatures destroy the copper surface, cause intensive darkening and can damage the tin lining inside. Wash by hand only — with warm water and a mild washing-up liquid. Dry thoroughly after washing.
Can I put a copper bottle in the fridge?
We do not recommend storing a copper bottle in the fridge. Cold temperatures slow the release of copper ions, reducing the health benefits, and condensation on the surface can accelerate darkening. Instead — cool the water separately in a glass vessel and pour it into the copper bottle before you head out.
Can a copper bracelet come into contact with water and sweat?
Sweat and salt sea water accelerate the corrosion of copper and can cause intensive darkening or green staining on the skin where it makes contact — harmless but not very attractive. Remove the bracelet before swimming in the sea and during intense physical exercise. After contact with water, rinse it with fresh water and dry it. Green staining on the skin washes off with soap.
Orders & Delivery
Can new vessels have discolouration?
Yes — new copper vessels may show natural discolouration, darker patches or uneven colour. This is completely normal and results from the natural properties of copper as an organic metal. Every vessel is unique — marks from the crafting process, slight variations in shade or localised patina are a sign of authentic craftsmanship, not a product defect. Over time the vessel will develop a uniform, deep patina.
Do antique-finish or nano-coated vessels have copper covered on the inside?
No — the dark antique finish or nano-coating applies only to the outer surface of the vessel. The interior remains the natural copper colour — shiny or tin-lined, depending on the product. The dark exterior colouring is the result of a special surface treatment that gives the vessel an elegant, aged appearance. It has no effect on the contact between water and the copper inside.
In what conditions are the vessels produced in India?
The vessels are produced in very civilised conditions, to a European standard. Our facility in India, in which we have a capital interest, ensures dignified working conditions and full quality control at every stage of production. Most of the craft work — forging, shaping, engraving — is carried out by skilled men who pass their knowledge from generation to generation. Women are responsible for packaging and final quality inspection. We have direct oversight of the entire production process and visit the facility regularly.
How long can water be left in a copper vessel?
Water can be left in a copper vessel for several days — copper acts antibacterially and prevents micro-organisms from multiplying, so the water stays fresh much longer than in plastic or glass. For the best health effect, we recommend storing it for 6–8 hours (e.g. overnight) before drinking. Rinse the vessel with fresh water regularly and wash it every few days.

Other Questions
Are copper vessels suitable for pets?
Yes — copper water bowls for dogs and cats are antibacterial, eliminate biofilm and encourage animals to drink more thanks to the fresher taste of the water. We particularly recommend them for cats, which naturally drink little water. Please note: certain dog breeds (Bedlington Terrier, Dobermann, Labrador) are predisposed to copper storage disease — consult your vet before introducing copper vessels.
Is water from a copper vessel suitable for watering plants?
Yes — copper is an essential micronutrient for plants. Water stored overnight in a copper vessel contains trace Cu²⁺ ions that are easily absorbed by roots. We recommend watering with copper water once every 2–4 weeks, alternating with regular water. More details are available in an article on our blog.
Where does the name AURA and the infinity symbol come from?
AURA is the energy field surrounding living organisms — in holistic medicine and spiritual tradition it represents the quality of energy we carry within and around us. The infinity symbol (∞) is the lemniscate — a sign of continuity, balance and permanence. For us it also means something very practical: a well-cared-for copper vessel will last for generations. Read more about the brand's story on our About Us page.
